Random Thoughts - i++

Life is so unpredictable. You think something, something else happens. You think things are going fine. Suddenly you see there is some change. You start satisfying with something then suddenly some big boon come near to you.

There is another reason behind sadness is when you fail to achieve what you have targeted for. Then, in order to avoid it, then we shouldn't have any targets. if there is no such target then we can't reach higher positions?
Thinking whether setting up goals comes when you start comparing yourself with others? I think yes. Then there is only one reason for sadness is that when you start comparing yourself with others. :)

I don't know. Seems I am thinking more. :)

Quote of the day

Sadness comes to one's life only when the person start comparing himself/herself with others.

Though it is the good old one. But it is so true.

using tab as field separator while using sort command in bash shell

It was some what strange to me when I experienced that tab as field separator is not supported (not exactly supported. but didn't make it easy to use) in sort command in bash shell. Probably it depends on sort version. But, some how it didn't work in my machine.

The error that I got when I included tab as field separator is:
sort: multi-character tab '\t'

So, after doing search over the above error,here is one of the solutions that worked for me:
TAB=$(printf "\t")
and then using sort -t "$TAB".
For ex:
sort -t "$TAB" -k2,2 -n entries.txt

Tuna Sandwich - A veggie?

I went to attend a conference recently where I asked the serving person whether there is any vegetarian item available there. Here is the conversation that went on.
Serving Person: You have aloo salad to eat.
Me: Is there anything else to eat?
Serving Person: You have Tuna Sandwich which is a vegitarian.
Me: Are you sure? Does it contain meat?
Serving Person: No. It doesn't contain meat.
Me: Does it contain Egg?
Serving Person: Probably it may contain but no meat for sure.
So, I grabbed a Tuna Sandwich to eat and while I was about to eat, I saw a pure vegetarian person sitting beside me. I asked him whether he is not having this sandwich. Then he said it contains fish. So, the other lady who was sitting with us said "here, they don't consider fish as meat"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny.. :))
Moral of the story: Don't assume that non-veg item means meat. You should explicitly ask the serving people whether it contains fish, meat or what not!!!!

worse politics

When I went to my home town this time, I heard that there were orders came from the government saying that the homes which are on the road have to demolish part of theirs in the plan of expanding roads and it was also said that if the owners of the home/shops demolish then the amount of destruction or loss of property is less than the amount or loss if the government do. Initially, I thought, it is the mistake of the owners who occupied the public property. But I heard that it was not the case but no one has argued over it.

At the same time, politicians have filled their pockets very well with the money from big people who bribed them for not demolishing their buildings. So, all those poor fellows who couldn't give enough money had to demolish their buildings and rich people left happily. How sad it is. Why such kind of differences. Who will bring this issue to the top authority. Media/News Paper?
No. I doubt it. As, I can see a lot of news channels or papers are biased to one or other political party. Every politician or a celebrity started their own channel/paper and started broadcasting about any news favor to them.

Other news that made me feel sad was using cast ism as a weapon in politics to grow faster. Few examples that gave in paper were Morarji Desai and Chiranjeevi.

For all the above information, I don't know whether it is true or not. These are just my thoughts and felt as the reasons for India not growing fast.

Random thoughts

Things are so unpredictable in day to day life. You think, things are going fine but at some fine day, it gets drastically changed. some times, you think you try to compromise with the things you have, but some sudden boon come near to you. Life is so unpredictable.

People curse bad people when they are alive but consider them as good and show sympathy when they die.
People don't accept few things when a person who is alive wish for. But, they may accept when they see the person is no more.

This is how a typical human being thoughts goes.

CMU professor gives his last lesson on life

Found it from here.
Will update more on this soon:
Few words that touched me are:
1. Wait long enough to find good in people:
wait long enough, people will surprise and impress you.. if u r pissed off and get angry, it means u didn't give enough time.
2. When you’re screwing up and nobody’s saying anything to you anymore, that means they’ve given up on you.
3. (If I got correctly)Let give freedom to children to write on their room walls which improves their creativity. Don't worry about resale value.

There are no words coming out of my mouth after listening his talk and reading the blog, except some sad feeling that how much we are loosing in our life.

Shame politicians and Shame rioters

Some how, I didn't like the statements made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidh over existence of God Rama. One shouldn't have hurt other religion statements just because you have freedom to speak. Who is he to say about existence of Rama? What the hell happened to him. He just want to say some statement and outrage people to do more riots or what.
Finally, at the end, it is the innocent people who are loosing their lives because of these stupid politicians' nonsense talk.

I don't understand why the hell they brought the issue of existence of Rama just to start a project. If there is any advantage that you are achieving because of building a bridge, you should focus more on that and convince people by letting them know the advantages and the problems that can get rid of because of the bridge. Rather, these useless politicians adding religion color to it(by trying to prove the non-existence of God Rama) and so letting more racism.

Some of his own words:
Condemning the attack on his daughter’s house in Bangalore, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said this act has proved “Ram devotees’ culture.”

“By this act, Ram's devotees have proved their culture. What is wrong with my comment on Ram?” he said.

-----
Really sick. Irrespective of which ever religion you are, you should never condemn other religion. If some one says something wrong about Christianity, I oppose that too.
It is the shameless rioters who took lives of two people. But, the source is the nonsense statements made by M.Karunanidhi. So, both rioters and M.Karunanidhi (because of his nonsense statements) are responsible for this.

King Fisher Airlines

I missed my flight to Bangalore recently due to traffic jam in the other place. I had been informed by the people there that it takes 1/2 hour to reach report but it had happened that it took 1 1/2 hour to reach the airport because of traffic jam and the airlines people refused to give the ticket for the flight which is going to start in 10 minutes. But, they told that if I want, they can book the ticket for the next flight which is going to start after 3 hours. As something is better than nothing, I accepted that one. I liked the way kingfisher airlines care their customers. The person would have just rejected rather saying sorry to me that he can't help in this situation but can book ticket for the next scheduled flight.

Conclusions from the story are:
1. The chant behind success is good customer care.
2. Traffic jam is there in every big cities. Just don't think that it is only in Bangalore. :)

PS: Once, I went to airport 2 hours early, then the flight was delayed by 2 hours. This time, I missed the flight because, I reached late and so had to wait for 3 hours. Coincidence is that, in both cases, it was kingfisher airlines. :)

Aah..Yet Finally : Password less login for SSH

I was trying for a password less login since yesterday. Some how, it didn't workout for me. Finally, it is working now.

Commands to follow to have a password less login from your system to remote host:
At your host:
1.ssh-keygen -t dsa
give empty for all options it asks (just enter enter)
and make sure that your ssh folder is read and writable by only you. chmod -R 700 .ssh
2.now, copy id_dsa.pub file from your machine to remote host.
3.ssh to remote host
check whether .ssh file is existing. If not create one and should have only read and write option.
and copy id_dsa.pub file contents to .ssh/authorized_keys file.
and chmod 600 .ssh/authorized_keys
4. exit from remote host
now, try to ssh to remote host. It should login without asking for any password.

If it is not working,
then edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. make sure you uncomment Protocol2,1 options and comment Protocol2 option as shown below:

The Best Match that I have ever seen

Recently, every one at home (including my mom) addicted to watching Tennis sports (Thanks to my brother who constantly watch this and made others to get addicted to it). We watched French open and also Wimbledon. I was fan of Federer though I didn't watch much of his matches but thru what ever I read in news. During French Open, I came across Raftal Nadal and found him as a good competitor. But, I didn't find the final of French open that interesting compared to Wimbledon. May be for couple of reasons.

Wimbledon final was the best match. Here, I was expecting Nadal to compete with Federer in the final and then Federer should win as Nadal had already won in French open. But, the final wasn't that easy as the way I was expecting. After the match, I impressed so much at the way Nadal is playing, that I became fan of him too. I felt happy that Federer won but at the same time, I felt bad that Nadal lost. He was covering his court pretty well. At one point, he fell down while hitting the ball but he quickly stood and ran to the other end in seconds. It is simply amazing to watch.

vote for Tajmahal- Is it authentic?

These days, I am getting many forwarded mails, saying "Vote for taj" thru this site(http://www.new7wonders.com , http://votefortaj.com/ etc) or SMS to this number to include our TajMahal in new seven wonders. Some how, I didn't wish to do. I don't know the exact reason but I am not interested to do. May be, I was thinking that it is not authentic. May be, the way they are saying (Here is the chance you can do something for your dear nation) didn't give any impression that it is authentic. One feeling I had is, there are many other issues on which we can fight (poverty, casteism). But, I had a small doubt some where, whether I am lazy to do so that I am giving all these reasons for not voting. But, seems, I am not. Here is one link that I got which says that it is all marketing strategy that these people came up with.

Tips to interviewer

1. Rather giving problem and expecting optimal answer at the first time. Try to analyze how the person is solving the problem.

2. Give enough time to the person while solving a problem rather telling "Oh. I am already running out of time. Can you please do it soon." "Can you please explain this in 2 minutes in detail as I don't have much time".

3. Don't keep something in your mind and expect the person to think in the same way.Remember, it is very rare that a person thinks/understands in the same way as you do.

If none of them are satisfied, I call that the person is not fit for interviewing.

Another Story

It was my Intermediate days, and results are out for first year. Everyone were very eager to know whether we are passed or failed. I was not that much because I had a firm belief that I don't fail at least. OK. We were looking in the news paper to see whether we are passed or failed. We looked thoroughly and found my number is not there. Our lecturer was there around, when one person said "Hey Girl, your number is not there. So, you are failed". Sir said, "How is that possible? She is one of toppers in our college". OK, finally, from the paper, it is clear that my number is not there. So, I am failed. I used to cry day and night and was wondering how can this happen. Only possibility that I thought is "May be, I haven't tied papers tightly with thread. So, they might have dispersed and lost. So, they might have evaluated for one paper where the marks are less than passing marks".

One of our college person went to Hyderabad to get marks from the board (His position was like head for conducting exams at district level, so was able to). He called me up and said "I will be announcing your marks. Don't get afraid" and finally, he said "You got 3 marks in Maths and so you are in failed category where as I got more than distinction in all other subjects". I started laughing. Now, my theory failed here. If the thread is not tied properly, there will be one paper, where It is impossible to have 3 marks for that. Then, If they give one mark for each paper, I had taken 3 additionals, then I should get 4 marks at least.

I told my father that I want to fight with the state board in court as I don't see any way that I can fail with 3 marks in Maths at least. But, He was little reluctant and said "See, you got very good marks in other subjects and if you anyway have to write for this Maths paper where you can easily score very good marks and you will be easily like reaching more than 400 out of 470.Then, why should we worry much" I said "I don't want to get asked by many people like "Oh, I heard that you are failed" I just can't tolerate ".

My father and another sir from our college went to Hyderabad and initially talked to one of the person in State Board to see like, whether it is possible to review my paper. He asked a bribe of 4k just to show the paper. So, my father decided to file a case against them in court. And it was a petition to allow me for betterment exams. Because, If a person fails in one subject, she/he can't go for a betterment exams. She/He can write only those ones in which they are failed.

Finally, I got the good news just two days before to my betterment exams that I got 72 out of 75 in Maths-1 paper and Court allowed me to appear for betterment. I was too happy for the reason that I didn't fail and another bonus is that I was topper in my town.

Moral of the story: Just be brave and have self-confidence when situations are against you. Who knows, may be something better is coming in your path.

Lesson -1

Simple tips to follow for bug-free, easy maintainable code:

1. Never copy a single line in your code. Better use a method even it is just one line. (prone to bugs, if you don't follow)
For Example:
int value1 = obj.getValue1() > 10 ? 10 : obj.getValue1();
int value2 = obj.getValue2() > 10 ? 10 : obj.getValue2();

Better way of writing above code is:
int value1 = getActualValue(obj.getValue1());
int value2 = getActualValue(obj.getValue2());

int getActualValue(int value)
{
return value > 10 ? 10 : value;
}

2. Never hardcode anything. Always assign values to constants and use that in the place where you want to use those values. This makes life simpler, when you want to change that value in all locations wherever it is used. This is very simple to say. But many people don't follow it.

more to come soon.

Not a good day or different day?

Today seems like, things are not going to be in smooth way.
1. Vehicle gave trouble in the middle and had to wait for a long time to get another one.
2. Most of my todo list, which I was able to finish yesterday created more issues and have to look into them again.
Good day or different day??
Wait and see..

V.P Singh comments over Supreme Court Verdict against OBC Reservation

I hate these political people.

Especially V.P.Singh comment here,over reservation saying OBC Reservation is unanimously selected by people all over India as M.Ps represent people.
Reservation was an issue concerning democracy and the unanimous decision of Parliament reflected the will of the people. Hence, the "people's will should be respected." Parliament and the Supreme Court were one on the issue, he said.

Shame on all these political people who tries to use "Divide and Rule" over people just for their political reasons to earn money.

I am happy to hear Supreme court's Verdict and I hope most of the students are happy for this.

At the end, it doesn't matter

We people think everything is permanant and we some how believe in that. And when time passes, you actually see the reality.

Tributes to my relative:
I remember one of my relative who was very good. We named him as WaterMelon uncle when we were small. Because, he used to bring water melon to our home when ever he come. Irrespective of what ever time it is, when he is passing my home, he used to stop at our home and talk to us and then go. He worked hard to grow up his children and passed away recently. When my father met him last time, he was afraid of his health and was asking my father how he can afford his son studies. My father assured him to not to worry. Me and my brother also assured my father that we can afford money for his studies. When we visit his home last time, Uncle wasn't there at his home and Aunt and his daughter were there. That time, she told us that these days uncle is worrying a lot about his health. That time, we never knew that he will be leaving us soon and thought he is taking tension unnecessarily.

We don't know what happens at what time. But, we still think, everything is permanant and live in that world. We know everything, but we won't be able to control over what ever we know.
I fought with some people in my schooling and didn't like some people company. Now, I found it silly when I look back that why I thought about them somuch when they are not at all important in my life.
Sometimes, It is better to ignore few things. It will be always good to talk about good factors of some one rather bad and be good always. But, it is not an easy job. But, I think, one can do by practice.

Poor Customer Satisfaction with Reliance Service

I heard that no service take more than one day to activate outgoing calls. So, I called up Reliance customer care and asked them how long it takes to activate my outgoing calls. They said "with in 72hrs". I don't understand which is true "5 days, previously told by the person" or "3 days, the one that other person informed".

I don't know who is wrong here. The customer or the service provider.
I strongly feel, it is service provider's mistake to not to inform customer clearly. Simply by sending a message, I didn't understand what all that is and by the time, I am about to submit documents, they blocked outgoing calls.
In this, I like Airtel Broadband service. They treat customers well. Any problem with the connection will be solved as soon as possible.

Another surprising thing is, the cell wasn't on my name and I told them that it is not on my name, so do they need any relevant documents from the concerned person saying he is fine to change it on my name. They said "nothing. You write your name. That's it". I was wondering, then any one can steal cell and get it on their name. No issues at all. :)

Bad Incident :( I am half mobile

"Dear customer, We haven't received your application form. Please submit your form immediately to avoid barring of services."

I got this message again and again and didn't understand what does that mean. Finally, one fine day, I got a call saying I need to submit an address proof for changed address. I said "it takes some time to me". Finally, one fine day, they blocked my outgoing calls. Neither I can make a call (even customer care call) nor a message.
I went to their office to submit all relevant documents. I forgot to take a xerox of my address proof and id-proof (My mistake here). They don't have a xerox machine and asked me to go to some other place for that. I have to cross two traffic signals for that. I said, " I can't go there". (I am afraid of crossing roads and try to avoid that). Finally, he sent his boy there to bring a copy of it. And, he gave good (/bad) news so calmly that it takes 5 working days to activate my cell.

Moral of the story: Never ignore even a single message from your customer care. It means a lot. :(

Funny Incident

I got into Volvo bus which was packed with people already. I tried to find out a place where I can safely stand. There was one but had occupied with luggage. So, I tried to stand in the remaining place left there but, as there was no support, I was about to fall. So, I moved one of the luggage on top of other one. while doing that, the below luggage bent down. I ignored it. After a while, I came to know that there is a bottle which is not closed properly in the luggage which was lied down and started leaking water. After seeing that, I kept that bottle straight. But by that time, 1/2 litre of water is already leaked out of the bottle. There was a guy who sat in front of me. He stood and came to me and said "You did a very good job." . I said "I am sorry. I didn't see bottle there". He said " No problem. We also do sometimes". I said " I didn't do it intentionally". He said " I didn't say that". Finally, he started asking me "where I am working. What I am doing. Where do I stay..etc..etc.." I had to answer it because the water fell out of the bottle because of my mistake. He started giving his introduction saying "this is the first time he came to Bangalore to join a company and his cell is out of charge..etc.etc. and his friend said he will come to the bus stop to pick him". So, I asked him whether he want to make a call to his friend. His bus stop and my bus stop are same so I asked whether he needs my help for moving his luggage. And finally, I ran away from that place as soon as possible.

Moral of the story: It is better to stand in the place which is left. :)

Our great Politicians

I just hate these fellows:
A tourist bus stoned in Agra in protest against Saddam Execution
Why can't these fellows do a single good thing which makes atleast few people happy.
