Yesterday, I was in a temple and after taking prasad, I was looking around to sit and then found a place where I can sit. At the same time, there was other lady (who haven't observed me) occupied the place by putting her bag and in few seconds, she realized that I am also trying to sit there. As she saw me as pregnant, she said "Please sit" and then took one fruit from her bag and gave it to me. When I said Thanks to her offer, she blessed saying "You will have a baby boy". I said "I don't mind who ever it is (boy/girl)". May be, she haven't expected this reply and so said "I don't know. It just came out of my heart".

Some one was saying that one of her daughter wanted daughter when she was pregnant but when son is born, after hearing the people's response, they were happy that it is a boy. Some how, I still don't understand why is this discrimination even in this generation. For me, it doesn't matter.

My dad never treated us separately from my brother. We got same options in education that my brother got. So, I never felt any such difference. And if I see people preferring boy for this simple reason that other people are also preferring, I just tried to act opposite and say I want a baby girl. :)Surprising is that many ladies prefer boys over girls!!!And, then I saw this image in FB and felt how true it is

You need mom, wife,sister then why don't you want a girl?

My experience with marks re-evaluation

Ok. The story goes back to long long ago (Yeah, I know. I am becoming older). I was in +2 ( also called intermediate second year). I knew it was the day the results (only pass/fail) will be out in paper. I wasn't very much concerned as I was damn sure that I anyway will be pass. All, I was concerned was how many marks I would be getting. There was one parent who came to drop his daughter and had a paper with him and it still has time for the first bell to ring. So, there were few people in class room and the uncle was looking for the results us in paper. So, when my turn came, he asked my number and I gave my number though, I am not much interested (I had very huge confidence that I will pass :) ). He looked at my number and said "oh! you are failed!". That was a shock for me (Given the state I was in earlier :P ). I rechecked and it's confirmed, I was failed. All I can think the reason to fail was "May be, I haven't tied additional papers well with thread and that might have got lost". But, you know, at the end, you are failed. So, I started feeling sad and the classes were taken. Each and every lecturer tries to console and said, "you have September and you can get it done. Focus well on studies". I was no mood to hear all those things and tears used to drop from my eyes when ever I hear these consolations and am no mood to accept my failure. Some neighbors and some acquaintance consolations/sarcastic statements were working wrongly. Whenever, they remind (If at all, I forgot) this and I start feeling sad and tears used to drop. So, things weren't going as smooth as it was earlier. Though, my parents supported very much and never brought that topic at all in front of me as they know me :)

Finally, thru some contacts, our college principal got to know marks of mine(before state board sent to college) and called me into his room to discuss the same. He told me "Be brave to hear the results and don't get shocked". So, he asked me to note down each subject's marks and I started noting down. Almost every subject, I passed with distinction except one. And, that is Maths, Paper-1 (Yeah, there were two maths papers and I don't remember the reason why now?). And the marks were out. The marks are "3". After listening this, I couldn't control my laughter. My principal was wondering why am I laughing. My theory for my failure in a subject was "the additional papers might have missed while tying to main sheet). So, even if additional papers are lost, it is impossible for me to get 3 marks for main sheet. And that too, it is maths. You can't write one full main sheet for one question that can give 3 marks!!". So, excluding this paper, I got 350+ out of 470/475 (Don't remember this number exactly now). Now, I am very sure that something went wrong and I asked for re-evaluation.

When my dad heard this story, he said "It's ok. You have betterment in September and it's maths paper and you can score very good marks in it. Even, in worse case, if you get 50+. you will cross 400 (yeah, those days, it was treated as very good score). So, it's ok". I was adamant. I said "Why should I be called as one subject failed person at all. I want to go for re-evaluation and want to get more marks in other subject where I can get". So, he, along with a person, who have some contacts in state board went to Hyderabad. So, the person in state board asked for a bribe of Rs6k, just to show the paper. So, My dad and other person decided to sue a case against the marks in Court. So, there was a case failed. Mean while, I started preparing for betterment. Just, one day before the betterment exams start, the news is out that our lawyer won the case against the marks and the re-evaluation of the paper showed marks as "72" out of 75. Aah. That was a big relief to me and I can't forget my lifetime of those moments (The pain and the happiness at the end). And, as an ice to the cake, I topped in town for First year results!

So, moral of the story: Don't rank yourself based on what some one said and don't worry even if you have failed. It's not the end of the story. :)

Again on Education System

Have been observing these school ads. Every one says the same. One says, next stop is Stanford. And other try to impress one category of people with terms like "IIT Coaching from LKG!". Look into any school ad, they will have "IIT, AIEEE, Medical". They want to start educating people keeping these in mind!!!! Please, Please, give kids an education which will be useful for their life time. Not just to crack IIT or other. That is secondary and will follow if you teach proper education. Rather telling them to cram something, improve their questioning power and make them think why it has to be in this way? Teach them, how to work as a team. What each subject says and why? Not because, just it is in books and so we have to follow them.

I really got irritated by these ads and get irritated when ever I see them. But, you know, all at the end is business. No one damn care about other. They want to make money so, they want more people to join and they can attract majority of the people by using those *words*.

I don't understand why sports is not part of education. At least, do something good for kids.

Education System - At its worst ( in my opinion )

Recently, my five year old niece went for some entrance exams for getting an admission to two schools. In one school, the time management is so bad that they called kids at 11:30 or 12 and made them to wait for hours and finally my niece came out at 3:30pm!! Come on guys, they are kids. Can't you have some time sense at least for them?

And, there is this another school called New Horizon in Bangalore. And, just see the kind of questions they are asking for Class-I entrance exam. Kids have been asked to copy an English para and also asked to copy a Hindi para (!!!, they are still learning A,B,C s of Hindi and these people are asking for copying Hindi paragraphs). I don't understand what are they going to teach in 1st class now? Also, I heard that they had some questions on English grammar. I don't know. I feel these kind of entrance exams should be banned and the school administration should be punished for it. Come on, it is such an young age for kids. Why the hell you need an entrance exam!!! Wish Govt take these kind of thing seriously. This is not right way of education.

My Saga of cooking

Ok. my current work environment has provided(or forced :D) me to sharpen my cooking skill. One day, I fedup with the canteen food (yeah. haven't seen this pathetic food earlier) and feel I can prepare better than this. Sometimes, I succeeds and that gives me motivation and sometimes, I fail (Yeah, it actually happened oneday that I beat my canteen food :(, can't imagine but happened in reality ). Then, I feel, why to torture my husband too with this food and give up cooking. But one day, I again feel that I can prepare better and start cooking and the story continues in infinite loop. :)

We had a plan to visit Bangalore last weekend and had prepared for it since long. However, God had some other plans for us. We had to cancel our trip for various reasons and after cancelling the trip, I got a call that my uncle is not well and admitted in a hospital in Hyd. We went to meet him on Saturday and by the time we reached, the doctor has informed them to take him to a hospital in their place itself as the same injections can be taken there. My uncle have a kid who just finished his +2. I consoled the kid as well my uncle and aunt saying everything will be ok. Little I knew that would be my last visit to him. They have taken my uncle to a hospital in their place and the journey went fine and he was feeling ok. After I got this information, after few minutes, I got a call saying he is no more.:-(

I guess, I am in the second phase of life.

In the first phase, you are a kid and you don't hear/see the news of the people you have seen while growing up are no more.

Second phase of life, you get to hear the news of elder people you have seen when you are kid are no more.
Third phase of life, you get to hear the news of your age people are no more and ball will be in our court during that time and couting for days

Yesterday, we were shifting home and door bell was rang and I opened the door. A person asked me "Could you call your mom please?". He takes home delivery order for fruits and vegetables and so wanted to talk to some elder people at home. :))

Later in the evening, a lady rang the bell. Again, I opened the door. She said "Could you call madam please?". I said "Yeah, tell me". She stared at me again and started talking. :)
I guess, all the credit goes to my t-shirt. Earlier, the same t-shirt made a security person in Bangalore Metro to inform me that "Under-18 are not allowed". :)

Stop the process of emotionally attacking

One of our relative is not feeling well since recently and the family are going in very bad trauma as recently, two people from the family are passed away during different incidents. Now, one can see how emotionally weak they might be during this situation, given they have kids who are still young and one of the main person of the family is ill. So, one religion have taken this as an advantage and gave some speech that they will do prayers for them and their God (are there different Gods who can do better than other!!!, I was assuming it is only one :-/) will save them. So, the couple converted into different religion and stopped celebrating the festivals of their religion. I am not against any religion and I do believe one should respect other religions and I don't differentiate as their God or my God. But, I didn't like this way of attacking people emotionally and try to convert them into one religion and put a hard and fast rule of not celebrating their own festivals!
My request to those fellows who choose to convert people's religion in this way: Please stop this nonsense advertising/promotion what ever you call. This is not the right way.

install chrome in fedora 12

Installing Google Chrome from the rpm file specified in google chrome site didn't work for me. So, below are the steps which worked for me.

Step-1: Create a chromium.repo file in your /etc/yum.repos.d directory
Step-2: add below contents to chromium.repo file

Taking a backup of a folder in Fedora Linux

Normal "cp" command will exclude files/folders starting with ".". Below steps are needed to make sure everything is copied (essentially a backup) of a given folder.

1. Set shopt dotglob option to enable.
shopt -s dotglob

2. Copy hidden files and folder.
cp -pr sourceDir destDir

3. Set shopt dotglob option to disable.
shopt -u dotglob

Ingredients:
1KG tomatoes, 1 big spoon tamarind, methi powder, 1 cup salt, 1 cup mirch powder, oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds

Preparation:
Clean 1 kg of tomatoes and dry it under fan/under Sun so that water will go away. Take it in a pan and cook it properly till the water in tomatoes almost go away. Once done, take the tamarind (after having only pulp, removing all seeds and other small stick type of things) and put it in the pan where tomatoes pulp is there and cook them together till the moist goes away. once done, add mirch powder, salt and methi powder. Take this mixture add lasoon and grind it in mixer. Keep this stuff in fridge.

Take oil in pan and heat it well. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and cool it down. Add part of above mixture (upto few weeks of use) and serve it as pickle.

My struggle with Maven plugin for eclipse and mahout building

Somehow, my maven plugin stopped working in my eclipse (again!!!). I have already posted on maven plugin installation and everything earlier. However, this doesn't seem to work now. :-(. no idea though. So, I had to restart my "mission mvn". Finally after a lot of struggle on making the current mvn plugin to work, I looked for a new plugin and got this link
. I installed this plugin and I could see "mvn commands" populated in "Run as.. " section. My happiness couldn't last for long as I couldn't successfully build mahout codebase using this plugin.

mvn install is giving build error however mvn compile is successfully compiling. Should be able to resolve soon. Stay Tuned...

Finally, I figure out a way to avoid build errors in eclipse using maven. Following checks need to be made to see if everything is configured properly

Right click on Project -> select Properties -> Make sure under Java Build Path and libraries tab, whether Maven ClassPath container and maven dependancies are present
Right click on Project -> select Properties ->Make sure under builder, you have maven project builder and maven incremental builder and default Java builder are available

Right click on project - select properties - select maven at left hand side - check include modules.

Once all above are configured properly, right click on project and select build project. This should build without any issues.

Disabling Work Offline in Firefox

I have been facing this issue in my firefox that when I start it, "Work Offline" box is checked by default and I have to manually uncheck to start browsing internet. And, here is the solution to turn it off permanently.

1. type about:config in address field of browser
This gives a warning saying you are changing advanced settings. Once you press the button that "I'll be careful, I promise!"

2. type "networkmanager" in filter tab and toggle the parameter(toolkit.networkmanager.disable) that you get when you type the above value in filter tab.

The reason given in above link is- The network manager is not well informed , especially in dial-up situations and so, lets the firefox assuming that no connection exists and there by forcing "Work Offline". However, in my case, I had some network issues while booting up and so a manual restart of network was needed. However, even after fixing that issue, I was facing the above problem and there is no other option for me other than disabling network manager.

While watching TV, I came across this news (http://www.dailychilli.com/news/1721-two-ministers-watch-as-cop-bleeds-to-death) where two ministers watch while cop dies.
I am not pressing at ministers but the whole group of people standing there and watching his death. Crows cry when other fellow crow is hurt. How can we being human beings watch other person dying?. The ugliest reasons they give are "We were waiting for Ambulance", "We thought the minister's convoy is attacked. So, we were thinking whether the attacked people still there and might attack if we reach near to the person". All I can say, they are insane. I don't treat them as human beings. Would you do the same thing if your family member is in that position?

Poor police office, who got double promotions for doing bravery tasks. He was part of "Operation Veerappan". Even, if he is not, he deserves help from the people around. And the way people were pouring drinking water over him, it looked like he is untouchable and they can't touch him. I felt sad and I couldn't do anything. :-(

Issues while starting mysql server

I have installed mysql server again in my local machine and I was trying to start the same using /etc/init.d/mysqld start and I was getting error saying "Timeout" and when I looked into /var/log/mysqld.log, it is giving error as the db is corrupted or not shutdown properly previously. And after doing some other fixes, I was getting "Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table 'mysql.host' doesn't exist" So to resolve this, I have removed the datadir altogether and have executed below commands:

/usr/bin/mysql_install_db --user=mysql --ldata=/new-data-location
and once that is succeeded, I tried to start with
mysqld_safe --datadir=/new-data-location --user=mysql &
and I got below error saying it couldn't create .pid file in /new-data-location/mysqld. So, I had to manually create mysqld directory in new-data-location and change ownership to mysql and re executed above command and everything went fine.

Now, I changed the root password using the secure installation script(mysql_secure_installation) available in bin folder and everything is fine now.

Refreshing all IMAP folders in Thunderbird

Continuing my work towards configuring my desktop for checking mails, I was irritated with thunderbird configuration as it wasn't refreshing all folders and I had to manually click on each folder for new mail. So, I was wondering what to do and then I remembered what my husband said which I effectively use in my day-to-day work. He said below quote.

"Remember, when you are facing a problem, don't think you are the only one and there are many who might have faced this earlier. So, before rushing to solve the problem, try to search over the net if there is a solution already. No need to reinvent the wheel"

There I go again, I searched and got below solution for refreshing all folders in Thunderbird.

Go to Edit ->Preferences -> Advanced -> Config Editor and toggle the following parameter available in the list.
"mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new" which toggles value from false to true and you are done. Now, I don't need to refresh each folder separately.

The only Active President of India so far

None other than great Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam ji. Though, President don't have much power to do, he was not wasting government money for useless travels and was inspiring young generation where ever he went to give a talk/chat with people. I remember the discussions that were happening while electing the next President when Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and other lady (don't remember her name) were contending for it. Now, I feel what would have happened if the lady was selected, we would have missed such a great president.

Just now heard that our current President of India,Prathibha Patil, brought her 3 dozen relatives along with her while travelling to some other place. We, the poor tax payers continue to pay taxes to let the politicians enjoy with our money. :-)

With changes in my cab routes and so change in my daily scheduled walk to catch cab, I was getting backpain (I rush in the last minute to catch the cab, so you can imagine how fast I need to walk) due to the heavy weight on my back on the name of "Laptop". So, I decided to configure my desktop for everything that I would need laptop for. Only thing that left was to read telugu news paper (yeah. I am addicted to "Eenadu" since my childhood when I was in 2nd or 3rd Std). So, I came across this plug in which would install the dynamic fonts needed for these news papers. Installing Maven in fc9 and maven plugin for eclipse

and once it is installed successfully, select maven by right clicking the project and then build is done using maven rather ant.

And, for installing maven in fc9, yum is showing maven2.0.4 which is old and doesn't work with latest maven pom.xml. So, in order to install latest version of maven, get the latest version from apache site http://maven.apache.org/download.html and download it. Ilayaraja rocks

We watched "Paa" in Solapur. It was nice as it was unexpected. We reached Solapur early and there was nothing to do as there was a gap of 5 hours for the train which we have to take. So, we planned to go for some movie and we found this theater where there were three options

1. De dana dan
2. Radio
3. Paa

And, we had this impression that Paa would be senti but we thought, that's ok. I don't want to go for Radio for sure.

But, Paa is not senti. And, Amitabh rocks as a child actor and Ilayaraja music rocks like anything. Vidya Balan looked much better than in Parineeta. Overall, I loved this movie and recommend to watch. :)

Junit testing

After a long break, recently I came across junit testing. This was when I was helping my team member in writing junit tests and suggested where to start from. Then, there was an issue in running a TestSuite.

The code that I used before is something like below:

In junit-4, they use annotations for TestSuite. So, the old syntax is not working. Here is working syntax

Handling "Ctrl+C" in Java

It is very simple. One just need to use addShutdownHook method and pass a thread where you can add code to do what ever you wanted to.

One year completion of our engagement

Last year, this day Rupesh and I got engaged. Rupesh gave a surprise by preparing a cake in the night (and I was happily sleeping) and we distributed it in our offices. Everyone in my office liked it a lot and were asking for recipe. Seriously, I should confess that it was yummy.

Also, we liked this sharing of our joy by distributing cake in office. :) And, we enjoyed/loved it a lot.

Fixing issues with "JavaHL not available" in eclipse

It is finally a big relief to me as I was able to fix this issue and thought I should note it down this in my blog. It can be useful for others and also for myself in future.

Here is the issue

I installed eclipse ganymede and installed subclipse using http://subclipse.tigris.org/servlets/ProjectProcess?pageID=p4wYuA .
I tried both 1.4 and 1.6. However, I could see javaHL not available in preferences ->team ->svn.
And snvkit was not working for me

Fix to the above problem:
1. I used 1.4 version from subclipse.tigirs.org
2. I installed subversion client from collabnet. which is available at
http://www.collab.net/downloads/subversion/redhat1.5.html
(Note: You can use latest versions, how ever, older version worked for me) . I took the first one specified in the list (file name:CollabNetSubversion-client-1.5.7-1.i386.rpm)

Funny talks/things by our niece,nephews:

Scene-1: My niece(4+yrs Old) goes to my sister and suddenly says "I want a kid at home". For which, my sister replied "why do we need a kid when you are a kid already at home". For which, my niece replied "I don't know. I want a kid. that's it. if you don't bring, I will leave home by taking clothes". My sister is like "!!!!!!!!". After a while, she said "where will you go. who will take you?" . My niece quickly replies "I will go to tata's (grandpa's) place.

Scene-2: Rupesh's sister asks his nephew(3+yrs old) "Ojas, what do you say about inviting other kid at home? Will you share all your toys with him? You shouldn't quarrel with him". He said "No. No need. Rupesh mama's baby will be there na. I will share toys with him.". And then she asks "what should we name the baby then?". He promptly replies "Engine Number 9". She couldn't control her laugh and questions him "We will name the baby Tejas as your name is Ojas" . He will say "No. The name would be engine number 9".

Scene-3: Rupesh's other nephew who is 1+ yr old observes his parents dipping rusk (aka toast) in Tea and eating. After that, they left kitchen and were talking in hall and after a while, they were wondering how can he sit so calm in kitchen for this long. So, they went back and observed. He took a glass of water and a mobile phone and dipped mobile phone water and licking mobile as eating toast. :-)

Writing complex code

Ok. I came across one such complex code -

Requirement:
Given an output log from a process which contains temporal information. Based on this temporal information, data need to be split and kept it in temporal directory structure. So, essentially, you have the data which contains when each line is generated and the data needs to be split and kept in directory structure like year/month/day/hour/filename.1 for 15 mins filename.2 for 30 mins worth of data and so on.

here is complicated version:

Have three threads - one is main thread , second thread creates a file for every 15 mins in above structure and third closes files created by previous thread. And the main thread reads each line from input and call write method. the stream handler will be modified by second thread for every 15 mins to point to new file. and will move the previous handler to queue and that is taken by third thread and closes it!!!!

here is simpler version:

for each inputline
check out the date
if it is with in minute domain write to same file
else close the previous file if any opened and create a new one
write inputline to output

close finally if there is any opened stream handler

Getting lazy day by day-No more

After my parents had come to Bangalore, I am more relaxed and getting lazy. My mom thinks that I am working too hard and so she never let me cook anything when she is here. :) Yesterday my mom went to my brother's place and it became my brother's duty to get food for us. :) I am sure that I am getting lazy and It might take time to get adjusted again once they go back to my hometown. :(

Huh!!I don't know at what time I started writing this blog. I wrote the above lines on 27th. And just after that minute, I got lot of work from here and there and finally, there is no free time. But this time, it is office work!!

Two Birthdays in a year

Can it be possible for any one to have two birthdays a year. ok. Don't think too complex. It is possible. I have two. One is my actual birthday which is in January and one is official birthday which is today. :) And I always forget and I get mail from IITK Alumni wishing me then I realize "Oh. Today is my birthday. :)"

There is a long story behind this. In short, my DOB changed twice in my school once for writing some Govt entrance exam in 4th Std and once for writing 10th class exams. I am elder to myself if I compare my official birthday with my actual birthday.

Studying data mining and Machine learning as one of my course in IIT, when some one says they are dataminig experts- I assume them that they are very good in coming up with trends using some of machine learning techniques. They know what Association Rule Mining, Clustering, Classification mean.

But, in some places where they are not exposed to above, they assume data mining expert mean doing ETL operations and database partitioning/sharding etc..etc..!!!
I feel like shouting at them that this is not what it meant!

Distributed copy from remote hdfs to local hdfs

The command DistCp works for copying from one hdfs cluster to other hdfs cluster. But, the problem is that it is not specified any where(As I aware of) what should be the source url and destination url.
Many places, it is specified that specify hdfs://namenode1:50070/path_to_file and many other places some other port number.
So, after a lot of debugging, I figured out that it should be
hadoop distcp hdfs://(fs.default.name)_property_specified_in_hadoop-site.xml/path_to_file

for ex:
hadoop distcp hdfs://remotehost:10000/opt/hadoop-name/foo/bar hdfs://localhost:54310/opt/hadoop-name/foo/bar

The important note here is the url should be picked up exactly how it is in fs.default.name in hadoop-site.xml in hadoop conf directory.

Important Step: Never ever call the customer care (toll free:1800 209 7777). They give all weird reasons every time.
1. According to their policies, they can't send it to a mail id but can Fax it!!!
2. The system is going for upgradation (day and night for two days!!) so need to call after few hours and when you call go to step(2)
3. send a mail to service@hdfcinsurance.com and they will send a soft copy to u with in 3 days!!!(for sending a soft copy, it takes 3 days!!!!) But, in realty, it never happens.

Working Step:
Call up ur local branch - Again, it may redirect you to some other customer service -so, keep on pressing 9 till u hear a voice from other side (not the automated one :) )
then, tell them that you need a premium receipt.
Also, send a mail to oobangalore@hdfcinsurance.com requesting a premium receipt.

It worked for me. So, if you face similar issues, follow the procedure.

This news says, smoking is completely banned in workplaces. And, if some one violate this, the owner, proprietor, manager will be fined.

Now, coming to the reality, I remember seeing a "No Smoking" board in a BMTC bus where the driver was smoking. :))Now, whom should we report?

Again, when I went to a movie theatre in my home town. It was written at the outside of theater that "Smoking is prohibited inside theater and some other conditions". It was written by the town police and also said, if some one violates, they will be fined.
These people(Police) are very clever. They have written these rules but didn't give any contact number on which we can complain. So, when we went inside the theater, people were happily smoking and we had to bear that. :(

Scene -1:
There was a book exhibition in my office and my friend and I were browsing thru the books and I had few CDs in my hand. Then, one lady whom I knew came and asked me if there is any discount. I said "Yeah. it is 22% over books and 10% over CDs". There was another girl a little far from us and was listening to this. And now she repeated the same question to me. Though I don't know her, I replied her with the information that I knew about the discounts. Here one thing that should be noted is we were standing in one side of the table where books were displayed and these two girls were standing the other side.

We were still browsing thru the books. And the unknown lady who repeated the question came back to me with a Harry Potter book and asked me "Excuse me, what is the price of this book?".!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scene -2: I had gone to my cousin's marriage recently and was talking to one of my relative. There was another lady who was sitting beside her and observing me for a while. There was a kid of 5-6yrs just beside me. During a discussion, that lady who was sitting with my relative asked me whether that kid is my son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our cute lucky used to see both my brother and I going together to office and then coming home together. Some times, if one of us gets late and other reaches early, my sweet lucky asks where is other person just after one of us enter into the home. One day, it happened that I got late and my brother had to leave early, she didn't let my brother saying "Pinni also come with you. Don't go".

Today, I was getting ready to catch office shuttle and as usual I was in hurry during last moments. She was playing something and asked me to help for that. I said "Sorry dear. I am getting late to office". The next question she asked me is "Breakfast?". I said "No Dear. I will have it in office". Then she asks "How about Mama(my brother)?". Her question is whether even my brother also takes breakfast at office or what?.
I always tell my sister that we should start a PG for girls and your daughter is a perfect fit for managing it. :)

I met my father's friend who is very talkative. He was so much talkative that he will find some topic or the other and discuss on that. He says "I can't live without talking to others and smile at them when I realize that they are from our place".
He was talking about his visits to US where he figured out that young people try to avoid talking. He says "The foreigners smile at you and wish you but the people whom from their features you can recognize that they are from India, they try to avoid even smile when the other person smiles.". He continues "What is wrong with smiling? It costs nothing. Just because you smiled at me, I won't come to your home right?". He was discussing the same with his daughter-in-law and asked "Why our people in US don't talk nor even smile when we try to talk to them or smile at them?" She said "Uncle, here, if some one initiates the discussion then the other people think they are Amway agents"!!!!
I couldn't control my laugh when he said this and was continuously laughing after that. :)

It start slowly and then at some point it goes a little fast at a little high pitch and then comes down. It is been long time that I didn't write anything on my blog. So, I thought I should write something to just confirm that I am still alive. :)
Reasons for not writing might be:
1. I am too busy in some other works (preparing a video on my niece, too busy writing so many status updates :) )

4. Didn't get good topic or interesting topic to write.

I thought I will write about the recent cricket match between Australia and India. I know that it is bad game played by Australian team and the umpires. But then I remember the quote "jo jeeta wahi sikhandar". But isn't it the approach to win the game should be given higher priority? Every one knows that umpires showed favor to Australia and Australian team were very much desperate to have the world record and so went thru all possible (wrong) ways to win the game. If a person found guilty in doping in Olympics, the award will be taken out from the person.So, won't that be applied here and nullify their win?

There is another reason behind sadness is when you fail to achieve what you have targeted for. Then, in order to avoid it, then we shouldn't have any targets. if there is no such target then we can't reach higher positions?
Thinking whether setting up goals comes when you start comparing yourself with others? I think yes. Then there is only one reason for sadness is that when you start comparing yourself with others. :)

using tab as field separator while using sort command in bash shell

It was some what strange to me when I experienced that tab as field separator is not supported (not exactly supported. but didn't make it easy to use) in sort command in bash shell. Probably it depends on sort version. But, some how it didn't work in my machine.

The error that I got when I included tab as field separator is:
sort: multi-character tab '\t'

So, after doing search over the above error,here is one of the solutions that worked for me:
TAB=$(printf "\t")
and then using sort -t "$TAB".
For ex:
sort -t "$TAB" -k2,2 -n entries.txt

Tuna Sandwich - A veggie?

I went to attend a conference recently where I asked the serving person whether there is any vegetarian item available there. Here is the conversation that went on.
Serving Person: You have aloo salad to eat.
Me: Is there anything else to eat?
Serving Person: You have Tuna Sandwich which is a vegitarian.
Me: Are you sure? Does it contain meat?
Serving Person: No. It doesn't contain meat.
Me: Does it contain Egg?
Serving Person: Probably it may contain but no meat for sure.
So, I grabbed a Tuna Sandwich to eat and while I was about to eat, I saw a pure vegetarian person sitting beside me. I asked him whether he is not having this sandwich. Then he said it contains fish. So, the other lady who was sitting with us said "here, they don't consider fish as meat"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny.. :))
Moral of the story: Don't assume that non-veg item means meat. You should explicitly ask the serving people whether it contains fish, meat or what not!!!!

Gmail limits forward filters

When I went to my home town this time, I heard that there were orders came from the government saying that the homes which are on the road have to demolish part of theirs in the plan of expanding roads and it was also said that if the owners of the home/shops demolish then the amount of destruction or loss of property is less than the amount or loss if the government do. Initially, I thought, it is the mistake of the owners who occupied the public property. But I heard that it was not the case but no one has argued over it.

At the same time, politicians have filled their pockets very well with the money from big people who bribed them for not demolishing their buildings. So, all those poor fellows who couldn't give enough money had to demolish their buildings and rich people left happily. How sad it is. Why such kind of differences. Who will bring this issue to the top authority. Media/News Paper?
No. I doubt it. As, I can see a lot of news channels or papers are biased to one or other political party. Every politician or a celebrity started their own channel/paper and started broadcasting about any news favor to them.

Other news that made me feel sad was using cast ism as a weapon in politics to grow faster. Few examples that gave in paper were Morarji Desai and Chiranjeevi.

For all the above information, I don't know whether it is true or not. These are just my thoughts and felt as the reasons for India not growing fast.

Things are so unpredictable in day to day life. You think, things are going fine but at some fine day, it gets drastically changed. some times, you think you try to compromise with the things you have, but some sudden boon come near to you. Life is so unpredictable.

People curse bad people when they are alive but consider them as good and show sympathy when they die.
People don't accept few things when a person who is alive wish for. But, they may accept when they see the person is no more.

I am learning two wheeler and found that if we know how to ride bicycle and have self confidence, it is very easy to learn. I was able to drive alone without any support on the first day in few minutes. :)

Some how, I didn't like the statements made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidh over existence of God Rama. One shouldn't have hurt other religion statements just because you have freedom to speak. Who is he to say about existence of Rama? What the hell happened to him. He just want to say some statement and outrage people to do more riots or what.
Finally, at the end, it is the innocent people who are loosing their lives because of these stupid politicians' nonsense talk.

I don't understand why the hell they brought the issue of existence of Rama just to start a project. If there is any advantage that you are achieving because of building a bridge, you should focus more on that and convince people by letting them know the advantages and the problems that can get rid of because of the bridge. Rather, these useless politicians adding religion color to it(by trying to prove the non-existence of God Rama) and so letting more racism.

King Fisher Airlines

I missed my flight to Bangalore recently due to traffic jam in the other place. I had been informed by the people there that it takes 1/2 hour to reach report but it had happened that it took 1 1/2 hour to reach the airport because of traffic jam and the airlines people refused to give the ticket for the flight which is going to start in 10 minutes. But, they told that if I want, they can book the ticket for the next flight which is going to start after 3 hours. As something is better than nothing, I accepted that one. I liked the way kingfisher airlines care their customers. The person would have just rejected rather saying sorry to me that he can't help in this situation but can book ticket for the next scheduled flight.

Conclusions from the story are:
1. The chant behind success is good customer care.
2. Traffic jam is there in every big cities. Just don't think that it is only in Bangalore. :)

PS: Once, I went to airport 2 hours early, then the flight was delayed by 2 hours. This time, I missed the flight because, I reached late and so had to wait for 3 hours. Coincidence is that, in both cases, it was kingfisher airlines. :)

1. Saying no to OBC quota again.
2. Asking all those politicians/ officers to vacate the guest house/quarters if they are using it even after their term expired.

I am really surprised and hats off to all those brave people there in supreme court.

Aah..Yet Finally : Password less login for SSH

I was trying for a password less login since yesterday. Some how, it didn't workout for me. Finally, it is working now.

Commands to follow to have a password less login from your system to remote host:
At your host:
1.ssh-keygen -t dsa
give empty for all options it asks (just enter enter)
and make sure that your ssh folder is read and writable by only you. chmod -R 700 .ssh
2.now, copy id_dsa.pub file from your machine to remote host.
3.ssh to remote host
check whether .ssh file is existing. If not create one and should have only read and write option.
and copy id_dsa.pub file contents to .ssh/authorized_keys file.
and chmod 600 .ssh/authorized_keys
4. exit from remote host
now, try to ssh to remote host. It should login without asking for any password.

If it is not working,
then edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. make sure you uncomment Protocol2,1 options and comment Protocol2 option as shown below:
Protocol 2,1
#Protocol 2

and also make sure the following lines are present:
RSAAuthentication yes
PubkeyAuthentication yes
AuthorizedKeysFile .ssh/authorized_keys

If present, uncomment them.

And restart your ssh daemon in your machine.

It should work now.

The Best Match that I have ever seen

Recently, every one at home (including my mom) addicted to watching Tennis sports (Thanks to my brother who constantly watch this and made others to get addicted to it). We watched French open and also Wimbledon. I was fan of Federer though I didn't watch much of his matches but thru what ever I read in news. During French Open, I came across Raftal Nadal and found him as a good competitor. But, I didn't find the final of French open that interesting compared to Wimbledon. May be for couple of reasons.

Wimbledon final was the best match. Here, I was expecting Nadal to compete with Federer in the final and then Federer should win as Nadal had already won in French open. But, the final wasn't that easy as the way I was expecting. After the match, I impressed so much at the way Nadal is playing, that I became fan of him too. I felt happy that Federer won but at the same time, I felt bad that Nadal lost. He was covering his court pretty well. At one point, he fell down while hitting the ball but he quickly stood and ran to the other end in seconds. It is simply amazing to watch.

These days, I am getting many forwarded mails, saying "Vote for taj" thru this site(http://www.new7wonders.com , http://votefortaj.com/ etc) or SMS to this number to include our TajMahal in new seven wonders. Some how, I didn't wish to do. I don't know the exact reason but I am not interested to do. May be, I was thinking that it is not authentic. May be, the way they are saying (Here is the chance you can do something for your dear nation) didn't give any impression that it is authentic. One feeling I had is, there are many other issues on which we can fight (poverty, casteism). But, I had a small doubt some where, whether I am lazy to do so that I am giving all these reasons for not voting. But, seems, I am not. Here is one link that I got which says that it is all marketing strategy that these people came up with.

Tips to interviewer

1. Rather giving problem and expecting optimal answer at the first time. Try to analyze how the person is solving the problem.

2. Give enough time to the person while solving a problem rather telling "Oh. I am already running out of time. Can you please do it soon." "Can you please explain this in 2 minutes in detail as I don't have much time".

3. Don't keep something in your mind and expect the person to think in the same way.Remember, it is very rare that a person thinks/understands in the same way as you do.

If none of them are satisfied, I call that the person is not fit for interviewing.

ICICI Pathetic: I am not the only person
